Mary Pat Sapola is currently a student at the University of Akron entering her junior year. She is studying social work with the intentions of pursuing her masters and becoming a family therapist. Mary Pat was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes during the spring of her Freshman year of high school in 2014. Since diagnosed, she has learned what it takes to be happy, healthy and compliant with this unique and ever-changing disease through diet, exercise and mindfulness.

Mary Pat is actively involved with volunteering, specifically with children who are also Type 1 Diabetic. In addition to being a full-time student and nanny she also runs a small business called The Sustained Look, a sustainable clothing company where she up-cycles gently used clothing and re-purposes fashion in an environmentally friendly and fashionable way.

Mary Pat can be reached at sapolamp@gmail.com or @mpsapola and @thesustainedlook on Instagram. To make donations or learn more about the fight for a cure for T1D visit www.jdrf.org
